Why Eredivisie?
The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands.
While the Eredivisie may not be as popular as the Premier League and Serie A, which we also provide as part of our Football API, UEFA ranked the Netherlands’ topflight league 6th as of 2023/24.
Eredivisie rivals Ligue 1, which claims to be the league of talents, having provided several world-class players over the years.
Ajax, who have claimed the most league titles (36) and PSV, the current champions (2023/24), are a handful of the clubs competing in Eredivisie that have produced a remarkable number of talents over the past decades.
The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimović (Ajax), Luis Suárez (Ajax), and Romário (PSV Eindhoven) all played in the Dutch league at early stages of their careers. Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima (PSV), Johan Cruyff (Ajax), and Frank Rijkaard (Ajax) also played in the Eredivisie before going on to achieve football prominence elsewhere.
Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, and Rafael van der Vaart, along with Virgil van Dijk, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Frenkie de Jong, also played in the Dutch League.
Many of these players had remarkable goal-scoring records, which you can retrieve along with the current crop of players in the league by using our Football API.
Goal scorers, live scores, in-play events, venue, and more than 60 other stats can be retrieved from our Eredivisie API endpoint.
