EFL League Two

The English Football League Two, known as League Two, is the lowest division of the EFL and the fourth-highest league in the overall English football system.

League Two

The league, previously known as the Football League Third Division, was introduced for the first time in the 2004/2005 season. Together with the winner of the playoffs, the top three teams are promoted to League One. The two teams that finished bottom are relegated to the National League. In the end, all of the teams hope to be playing in the Premier League one day.

League Two Teams

In total, there are 24 clubs in League Two. It handles a double round-robin structure, meaning that every team will play matches until everyone has played against each other twice. The following teams performed in the 2021/2022 season.

In Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, you can find Forest Green Rovers, known as the Green Devils. They play their home matches at the New Lawn. The stadium has a capacity of 5,141. Namesakes, Tranmere Rovers, are located in Birkenhead. Their stadium is called Prenton Park. It is one of the biggest venues, with a seating capacity of more than 16,000. Another club with the same name is Bristol Rovers, also known as The Pirates. The club was founded in 1883. Their main rivals are city neighbours Bristol City. Next to these clubs, there are a few more clubs that share the same name components: Northampton Town, Swindon Town, Mansfield Town, Harrogate Town and Crawley Town.

Topscorers

From the 2005/2006 season until the 2021/2022, Marc Richards is the football player with the most goals in League Two. Richards is a former center-forward who a total of 133 goals in 353 matches. In second place is Kevin Ellison. Ellison, 43 years old, is still active in the 2021/2022 season and scored 115 goals. Not only known for his scoring capacity but rather for his appearance and strength is Adebayo Akinfenwa. He has scored a total of 110 goals in 331 fixtures which secures him fourth place on the all-time top scorers’ list. Akinfenwa plays for Wycombe Wanderers in the 2021/2022 season, active in League One. He has announced his retirement at the end of this season. Fans will surely miss him.
