Ligue 1 Teams 2024/25 season
Eighteen teams are currently participating in the 2024–25 Ligue 1 season.
Paris Saint-Germain
Current champions Paris Saint-Germain are favourites yet again. The club from the capital was founded in 1970. In 2011, Qatar Sports Investments invested in PSG. Soon after the investment, PSG rose to prominence. Since then, they have become favourites for the Champions League title each season despite falling short year-on-year. In Ligue 1, they remain the most successful club, with 12 Ligue 1 titles. The club plays its home matches at Parc des Princes, which has a capacity of 47,929.
Olympique Marseille
Olympique Marseille was founded in 1899. It remains the only club in France to have ever won the Champions League, the maiden edition of the competition (1993). Stade Vélodrome is the home ground of Olympique Marseille, with a capacity of 67,000. They remain the third-most successful club in Ligue 1 with nine titles, the most recent being in 2009–10. OM have also finished in second place 13 times.
OGC Nice
Officially known as Olympique Gymnaste Club de Nice, OGC Nice is based in Allianz Riviera and was founded in 1904. The stadium has a capacity of 35,624. The club has won Ligue 1 four times, with the last title being in 1958–59. They have also finished
Nice has finished second three times and won the French Cup three times, becoming Coupe de France champions in 1951–52, 1953–54, and 1996–97.
Stade Rennais
Stade Rennais, also known as Stade Rennes, was founded in 1901. Roazhon Park, with a capacity of 29,778, is where the home matches are played. Rennais have never won a Ligue 1 title. However, they have won the Coupe de France three times: in 1964–65, 1970–71, and 2018–19.
RC Strasbourg
RC Strasbourg plays its home matches at Stade de la Meinau, which has a capacity of 26,109. The club was founded in 1906. The first match was against FC Germania. Strasbourg lost by a score of 7-0. The interesting part is that the club gave up at halftime. Two weeks after this, both teams played each other again. The full-time result was only 2-0 in favour of FC Germania. Strasbourg won the Ligue 1 title once, in 1978–79.
RC Lens
Racing Club Lens was founded in 1906. Stade Bollaert-Delelis is the home ground, which has a capacity of 38,223. On April 30, 2020, Lens were promoted to Ligue 1 after the LFP decided to end the seasons of both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 early due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France. The club was second on the table in Ligue 2 at the time of the decision. They have since remained in Ligue 1. Lens won the Ligue 1 title in 1997–98 and have finished in second place five times.
LOSC Lille
Lille was founded in 1944. Their home ground is the Stade Pierre Mauroy, with a capacity of 50,186. Lille have won Ligue 1 four times: in 1945–46, 1953–54, 2010–11, and in 2020–21. They have also finished in second place six times. Lille has also won the Coupe de France six times (1945–46, 1946–47, 1947–48, 1952–53, 1954–55, 2010–11).
AS Monaco FC
Monaco FC is a club that is actually not from France. It was founded in 1919 and became professional in 1948. The home matches are played in Stade Luis II, which has a capacity of 18,500. AS Monaco are the fourth-most successful club in Ligue 1, having won the title eight times and finished in second place seven times.
Le Havre AC
Le Havre AC was founded in 1872 and plays its matches in Stade Océane, which has a capacity of 25,178. The club was promoted in 2023/2024 and is the oldest football club in France. However, Le Havre have never won a Ligue 1 title in their entire history.
FC Nantes
Nantes was founded in 1943. Stade de la Beaujoire, which has a capacity of 37,473, is the home ground of the club. Four-time Coupe de France winners, Nantes are the joint-fourth most successful club in Ligue 1, having won the title eight times alongside Monaco. Nantes have also been runners-up seven times.
Six Ligue 1 teams can qualify for European club tournaments. The two lowest-ranked teams will be relegated directly to Ligue 2.
Olympique Lyon
Olympique Lyon was founded in 1899. Since 2016, its home ground has been Parc Olympique Lyonnais, with a capacity of 59,186. Before then, the club played home matches in Stade Gerland. OL are the fifth-most successful club in Ligue 1, having won the title seven times and finished in second place five times.
Montpellier HSC
Montpellier Hérault Sport Club was founded in 1919. The home ground is the Stade de la Mosson, with a capacity of 32,939. Montpellier won their only Ligue 1 title in 2011–12. They have won the Coupe de France twice, in 1928–29 and 1989–90.
Stade Brestois
Brest was founded in 1950. Its home ground is Stade Francis-Le Blé, which has a capacity of 16,000. Stade Brestois has never won the domestic title.
Stade de Reims
Stade de Reims, also known as Reims, was founded in 1911. Home matches are played in the Stade Auguste-Delaune, which has a capacity of 21,127. Reims are six-time winners of the Ligue 1 title and have also finished in second place three times.
Toulouse FC
Toulouse FC was established in 1970. Its home games are played at the Stadium de Toulouse, which is located in the city. Les Pitchouns have won the Ligue 2 title three times. Toulouse has competed in European competition five times, most recently in 2007, when it qualified for its maiden participation in the UEFA Champions League.

Angers SCO
Angers SCO, also known as Angers Sporting Club de l’Ouest, was founded in 1919. The club’s home ground is Stade Raymond-Kopa, which has a capacity of 18,752. After a year’s absence, Angers returned to Ligue 1 for the 2024–25 season.
AJ Auxerre
AJ Auxerre was established in 1905. Auxerre plays its home games at the Stade l’Abbé-Deschamps, which is located on the banks of the Yonne River. The team has only won the Ligue 1 title once, in 1995–96. AJA returned to Ligue 1 for the 2024–25 season after a year’s absence.
St. Étienne
St. Étienne returned to Ligue 1 for the 2024–25 season after two years of absence. Saint-Étienne are the second most successful club in Ligue, having won the domestic title 10 times, with the most recent being in 1980–81. The club has also finished in second place three times.
Relegated
Clermont Foot
Clermont Foot was founded in 1911. The club’s home ground is Stade Gabriel Montpied, which has a capacity of 11,980. In the 2023–24 season, Clermont finished bottom of the table and was relegated to Ligue 2.
FC Lorient-Bretagne Sud
Lorient was founded in 1926. In 1998/1999, the club was playing in Ligue 1 for the first time, but they were relegated straight away. Stade du Moustoir is the home ground of Lorient. The stadium has a capacity of 18,110. They were relegated to Ligue 2 after finishing in 17th place at the end of the 2023–24 season.
FC Metz
FC Metz was founded in 1932 by the amalgamation of two amateur athletic clubs and shortly thereafter became a professional team. FC Metz finished in 16th place and were relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2023–24 season after failing to secure their place via a playoff.
